Common Questions About Driving Lessons
The number of driving lessons required varies from learner to learner and depends on factors such as previous experience, confidence levels, and individual learning pace.
While every learner is different, most people require between 20 and 40 hours of professional driving tuition before they are ready for their practical driving test. Some learners may need fewer lessons, while others may benefit from additional practice to build confidence and develop their driving skills.
Throughout your training, your instructor will regularly assess your progress and provide honest feedback on your readiness for the test. Our goal is to ensure you are not only prepared to pass your driving test but also equipped with the skills needed to drive safely and confidently for life.
At City Instructor, all lessons are tailored to your individual needs, helping you progress as efficiently and effectively as possible.

We understand that plans can change. If you need to cancel or rearrange a driving lesson, we kindly ask for at least 48 hours’ notice.
Providing sufficient notice allows us to offer the lesson slot to another learner and helps us manage our instructors’ schedules effectively. Lessons cancelled with less than 48 hours’ notice may be charged at the full lesson rate.
If you need to make changes to a booking, please contact us as soon as possible and we will do our best to accommodate your request.
For your first driving lesson, please bring your valid provisional driving licence, as this is required before you can drive on public roads.
We also recommend wearing comfortable clothing and flat, suitable footwear that allows you to operate the pedals safely and comfortably.
If you have any questions, concerns or specific requirements before your lesson, feel free to let us know in advance. Your instructor will be happy to help and ensure you feel relaxed and fully prepared for your first time behind the wheel.

Many of the instructors working with City Instructor use dash cameras or in-car CCTV systems for safety, security and insurance purposes. We strongly encourage instructors to use approved recording devices to help protect both learners and instructors during driving lessons.
